Becoming a more powerful hitter is what Valley Center softball player Abreya Perry focused on throughout the offseason.
“I want to up the amount of home runs I hit,” Perry said. “My sophomore season I got injured in my shoulder and that took me out of that year. My junior year I wasn’t as strong as I wanted to be, so this offseason I’ve been trying to work on strength.”
Perry was an all-state selection last year for the Hornets, but more than any accolade or award, she considers herself lucky to have the teammates she does.
“I am most excited for one last season with some of my best friends,” Perry said. “High school softball is an amazing opportunity for me to play the sport I love with people I have been going to school with for years.”
In order for Valley Center to reach its potential, Perry said her team needs to be able to rely on each other no matter the situation.
“This year the goals I have for the team is just upping our confidence,” Perry said. “We tend to play timid sometimes, and that doesn’t help us in the long run. Going into every game with confidence and trusting in each other’s gifts will get us very far.”
