Washburn Rural’s Henley Rapp – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Dave Tew Shelter Insurance

For Washburn Rural senior catcher Henley Rapp, leadership is more than a title — it’s a responsibility she’s proud to carry. “The most important thing for me is being able to give back and help lead the underclassmen,” Rapp said. “I was fortunate enough to make varsity as a freshman and had an awesome senior class that really poured into me and encouraged me along the way.”

Rapp has been part of the game nearly her entire life. “I’ve been playing softball since I was five years old and I am a catcher,” she said. It’s a position that demands focus, toughness, and quick decision-making — qualities Rapp has refined over the years. “If I could play any other position on the field, I would definitely be a pitcher,” she added.

When she’s behind the plate or at bat, Rapp takes a strategic approach. “I always try to go up each at bat with a plan. Every player has their strengths at the plate, and you have to be ready to capitalize on that one pitch when you see it,” she explained. “Softball is a tough sport; you must have a short memory and be ready for the next play.”

Her dedication extends beyond the field. A senior at Washburn Rural, Rapp said her favorite subject is AP Psychology — a class that gives her insight into both competition and teamwork. Off the field, she keeps her energy up with some go-to meals. “My favorite pregame snack is a cutie orange,” she said. “My favorite post-game meal is a three-finger combo from Raising Cane’s.”

Her favorite place to play is one that holds special memories. “Arrocha Ballpark — I’ve been extremely blessed to have so many great memories from there the last three years,” Rapp said.

Looking back, Rapp said her biggest influence has been her father. “He is always ready to go to the fields with me and put in the extra work or just sit down and talk about how the games went. He never fails to show up for me and support me through anything.”

As she looks ahead, Rapp is ready for the next chapter. “I am going to attend Johnson County Community College where I will play softball and earn an associate’s degree.”
