Wellington’s Camden White – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by SCCDAT

For Camden White, involvement has always been about more than athletics and activities. The Wellington student has spent his high school years finding ways to lead, encourage others and make a positive impact both in school and in the community.

White has been heavily involved in athletics during high school. He earned varsity letters in tennis during his freshman and sophomore years and added another varsity letter in basketball this season. He also spent his freshman and sophomore seasons as a starter on the junior varsity basketball team before earning varsity playing time this year.

Outside of sports, White is involved in National Honor Society and participates in the Wellington youth group at Wellington Methodist Church. This year, he also helped coach a youth basketball team alongside several of his friends.

One of the activities that has had the biggest impact on White’s high school experience has been his involvement in SCCDAT.

White said he first joined SCCDAT as a freshman after being encouraged by his older sister, who had also been involved in the organization during high school.

“My sister had been in SCCDAT while in high school and she encouraged me to join,” White said. “I also wanted to be more involved in school activities and be a positive role model.”

Since joining the organization, White said SCCDAT has helped him grow personally while also giving him opportunities to encourage younger students to make positive choices.

“SCCDAT has helped me to become more outgoing and meet new people,” White said. “It has also made me want to encourage people to not drink or do drugs.”

Throughout the year, SCCDAT hosts activities and events designed to promote drug-free lifestyles and positive decision-making among students. White said the friendships and interactions built through those events have become some of his favorite high school memories.

“Some of my favorite memories were hanging out with my friends during events put on by SCCDAT,” White said. “Another one is meeting new people and encouraging kids to make good life decisions and not do drugs.”
