After finishing fifth at state last year, Heights senior Jonovan Wyatt is hungry for more.
“I want to make a name for myself in this sport through hard work and consistency. I want the people around me to be proud of what I’m doing, and I want to be the type of person who lifts up others and brings something positive to the team,” Wyatt said.
Wyatt doesn’t just want success for himself, he also wants the people around him to succeed too.
“As a team, I want us to be the group nobody wants to face — the team that’s tough, disciplined, and ready to fight every match,” Wyatt said. “I’m a team captain, and I take a lot of pride in helping wherever I’m needed. Whether it’s leading stretches, running warmups, or demonstrating technique for younger guys, I want to set a standard and help everyone in our room get better.”
Wyatt also received high praise from head coach Isaiah Murdock when asked about his hard work.
“What makes him special has never been the accomplishments, but rather the way he carries himself. He is driven, dependable, and the kind of kid you simply enjoy being around because the desire to be great lives within him. He has dealt with his share of adversity though, both on and off the mat, yet he always finds a way to focus on what matters and get right back to work,” Murdock said.
