Wichita Heights High School senior Mitzy Gomez is a force to be reckoned with on the volleyball court. Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches and playing primarily as a right-side hitter, while sometimes stepping in as a middle blocker, Gomez uses her height, athleticism, and left-handed advantage to make a big impact for the Falcons.
This season, Gomez has set clear personal goals, focusing on improving her blocking game. “I’m working on making full contact with the ball and making sure it doesn’t get past our court,” she says. That drive is already paying off because Gomez shared that she is proud of how much her hitting has improved and is determined to keep pushing forward.
Gomez holds a team-first attitude that shines through. One of the team’s goals this year is to bring more positivity and excitement to the court. “We want to be happier to play and be excited about the small things,” she shares. With that energy, the Falcons are setting their sights on a strong finish, looking ahead to substate and hopefully beyond.
During the off-season, Gomez stays committed to her game by attending summer open gyms and participating in the Friends summer league. Her dedication to growth and teamwork has made her a key leader on the court.
Off the court, Gomez is just as involved. She’s active in FFA and also plays basketball. Looking toward the future, she plans to go to college, though she hasn’t made a final decision yet. One thing she is sure about is her passion for history. Gomez hopes to become a history teacher or professor someday.
With her hard work, leadership, and passion, Mitzy Gomez is leaving a legacy at Wichita Heights and building a bright future ahead.
