Wichita Northwest’s Kiera Smith – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Dean Jones State Farm

Looking to get her name out there more, Wichita Northwest senior Kiera Smith hopes all the work she has put in will do just that.

“I really want to improve on my 200 time and I want to make it to state in that and not just one solo event this year,” Smith said. “I’ve been working on staying conditioned and pushing even when tired because that’s a problem of mine is getting too tired towards the end but I won’t let that stop me this year.”

Smith runs the 100-meter, 200-meter and 4×100 meter for the Grizzlies and has big plans for those events this year.

“I really would like to get top three at state and break the 11s. I also want to win state with my 4×1 relay because we have been 2nd in 2024 and 3rd in 2025 so I need that victory,” Smith said.

As a senior for the Grizzlies, Smith is a leader on her track team and feels like a lot of the girls look up to her.

A big area of motivation for anyone is to get a college offer, but for Smith it’s the motivation for big division one offers that drives her.

Last year, Smith ran her fastest 100-meter time at state with a 12.03, then her 200-meter was a 25.65.

“My motivation for this season is wanting to get a better offer in a bigger d1 college, so that would push me all season,” Smith said.
