Germya (Mya) Sanford, senior shooting guard for the Wyandotte, has already accomplished a lot in her time at Wyandotte. She has scored over 400 career points. She earned First Team All-League honors as a sophomore and followed that up by receiving Honorable Mention All-Conference as a junior averaging double-digit scoring.
To prepare for her final season, Sanford wanted to address several issues that she felt she needed to improve, “I’ve faced a few health issues, but that only made me stronger and more determined. One major focus was on improving my ball-handling and shooting consistency. I’ve also worked hard on the mental game. My biggest weakness used to be overthinking on the court, but I’ve worked on trusting my instincts and playing more freely.”
That approach should also help Sanford to achieve another big goal, which is to leave her legacy by helping to pass the Bulldogs’ culture on to her teammates, “My role is to lead by example and be the player who does the little things that make a big difference — defense, hustle, and communicate. I want to step up as a leader and set the tone for my team.”
Mya is understandably proud of her equally important contributions to the Bulldog culture off the court, “Outside of basketball, I serve as PTSA Secretary, Vice President for Jury Court, Captain of the Varsity Volleyball Team, and Senior Representative for Student Council.” After high school, Sanford plans to attend firefighter academy to become a firefighter while also earning a degree in Criminal Justice.
