Wyandotte’s Ke’Mori Mercado – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Preferred Physical Therapy Kansas City

By Angela Brunk

Ke’Mori Mercado is a senior at Wyandotte High School and serves as the Cheer Captain for her school’s cheer program. She has been cheering since her freshman year and has developed a strong passion for the sport through years of dedication and hard work. Although she understands that cheerleading is always a work in progress, Mercado is excited to take the skills she has built in high school and elevate them to the collegiate level.

During the offseason, Mercado remains committed to her training by attending a UCA cheer camp for a week each summer and focusing on conditioning. She also maintains a gym membership throughout the spring and summer to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming cheer season. One of the main areas she wants to improve is her jumping ability, so she prioritizes core workouts and follows a disciplined offseason routine to strengthen her performance.

Mercado has set both individual and team goals for the season. Individually, she hopes to receive college cheer offers. As a team, she wants her stunt groups to become stronger and more solidified before the end of the season. As Cheer Captain, she takes pride in leading her team and helping create a positive and motivated environment.

While she does not list specific accolades from her junior year, Mercado is a current All-American Cheerleader, an honor that reflects her talent and dedication. Outside of cheer, she is highly involved at Wyandotte High School. She serves as student council vice president, is a Link Crew freshman mentor, and has been a dancer for nearly 15 years.

After high school, Mercado plans to attend college to study media communications, pursue a career in sports journalism, and possibly create her own podcast.
