Fan’s Vote! Wichita Small School Boys Basketball Player of the Year ( Presented by WSU Tech)

Jordy Dolloff of Wichita Classical was voted the Wichita Small School Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Dolloff led the Saints to the Class 1A Division I runner-up finish this season.

“I would say we definitely had a successful season as a team,” Dolloff said. “If you look back at last season, we beat every team we had lost to and that was a big goal for us as a team. As an individual I felt like I constantly grew as a basketball player and was constantly learning what it meant to lead my team.”

Before this season, Classical had never won a state tournament game, so that in of itself made this season a successful one for Dolloff.

“I would say we met our team goals for sure,” Dolloff said. “Even though we came up short in the finals and obviously wanted to win that, our program has never had a state victory and it felt great to do that and more.”

Moving past the sub-state round was a focal point for Dolloff in 2023. That was the round the Saints lost in a year ago.

“I would say our substate final sticks out to me when I look back,” Dolloff said. “After losing last year when we felt like we shouldn’t have, our whole team was ready to get back to where we were, and it worked out that we played the same team we lost to and I don’t think anyone could’ve asked for any better situation. So winning that game felt really good.”

Dolloff and his fellow seniors made school history with wins and state tournament appearances, but it was more than results Dolloff felt would make a lasting impact.

I feel that I’ve left a better culture,” Dolloff said. “It was great to see the support from each year. Looking back at the fanbase and general excitement around basketball my freshman year, not that it was horrible, it wasn’t like this year, and I think this will continue to grow.”
