Heights running back Josh Sanders running wild through first six games

Heights junior running back Josh Sanders has played a key role in the Falcons’ three-game winning streak that has evened their record at 3-3.

Sanders, who has 1,163 rushing yards with 15 touchdowns, has 754 yards in the past three games. He ran for a season-high 324 against North. Only Bishop Carroll, in Game 2, has held Sanders below 100 yards.

“We learned how to compete and how to lose in those first games,” Sanders said. “Being an undefeated team, you don’t know how to deal with adversity. Since we took those Ls, we know what situations we get put in and how to react to them.

“It is a lot more fun to win, but if I have to receive a lesson, I’ll take it either way.”

Six games in, Heights’ players now understand their roles — and mistakes have lessened.

“We have people set in positions where they know what they’re going to do on the field and that minimizes mistakes,” Sanders said.

Heights’ offense has been explosive with Sanders, quarterback Dylan Depperschmidt and backs Jaylin Hanks and John Randle.

“Our offense is very explosive, very powerful, very misleading — teams don’t know where the ball is going to be,” Sanders said.
