Tonight’s football recaps and scores (Sept. 16)

By Blake Chadwick

Kansas state Commit Avery Johnson threw for six touchdowns against the Newton Railers as the Maize Eagles pitched a shutout to remain atop the AVCTL I with a 49-0 win.

LJ Phillips tapped into his beastmode-like performances once again as he led the Northwest Grizzlies to a 41-14 win against the Kapaun Mount Carmel Crusaders.

Andover took care of Goddard 20-13 in overtime.
Senior receiver BJ Redic was able to haul in the go-ahead touchdown in overtime on the pass from Nik Pai.

After a much needed stop, Andover kept up its winning ways despite losing QB1 Brady Strausz Week 1.

In a game between two heavyweights, the Derby Panthers took on the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles in the game of the week.

Dylan Edwards has been one of those players everyone talked about all summer.

The Notre Dame commit continued to be that talking point as he carried the Panthers to a 45-38 win with five touchdowns, including a kick return.

Bishop Carroll quarterback Jackson King showed out again with three touchdowns and 180 passing yards, while Tate Blasi had 153 receiving yards on nine receptions.

King was slowed down by the Derby defense just enough for Edwards to flex his muscles as he delivered the knockout blow with 44 seconds left in the game, just one play after the Golden Eagles scored the tying touchdown.

Edwards finished with 185 rushing yards, while quarterback Brock Zerger had 157 passing yards.

Andale did its usual, winning in dominant fashion as the Indians beat the El Dorado Wildcats 58-19.

Owen Eck carried the load for the Indians as he rushed for three touchdowns on seven carries.

Wichita East moved its streak to two wins after a 68-15 win against the Southeast Buffaloes.

Hutchinson moves to 3-0 after a 35-21 win over the Maize South Mavericks.

Hutchinson’s Zion Burgess rushed for 164 yards and a touchdown, while Noah Khokhar rushed for three touchdowns.

Great Bend snapped a 19-game losing streak with a 31-6 win over Buhler. The last win for the Panthers was on November 1, 2019.

Kansas State commit Wesley Fair and the Wichita Collegiate Spartans took on the Wellington Crusaders.

The Spartans made quick work of the Crusaders in the 48-14 win.

Clearwater bounced back after their Week 2 loss to beat Rose Hill 34-10.

Hesston also took care of business as it bounced back and beat Hillsboro 28-18.

Wichita Independent wins and moves to 3-0.

The Panthers beat Moundridge 26-18.
