Tonight’s high school basketball scores, recaps (Dec. 17)

Boys

Derby 64, Bishop Carroll 52 — Sixteen hours after beating Salina South, the Panthers beat Bishop Carroll at Northwest. While Derby opened the game by scoring the first seven points, Carroll got it back within two. It was a common theme through the game as the Eagles’ Mikey Brand scored 21, hitting 8 of 12 shots, including three three-pointers, and John Hauserman had 15, hitting 6 of 10 field goals. But after Carroll cut the lead to 30-26 with 42 seconds to go in the first half, Derby started an 11-0 run with a three from Jack Ulwelling. Derby’s lead didn’t get below nine points again as Kaeson Fisher-Brown had 20 points, six rebounds and Dallas Metzger had 18 points. Cooper Chadwick added five rebounds and three steals, Kaden Franklin had two blocks.

Goessel 63, Marion 43 — Goessel’s N. Schrag had 17 points, J. Wiens 14 and K. Smith hit three three-pointers in the win. Marion’s C. Baily had 14 points.

Hays 58, Wichita South 50 — Jack Weimer had 23 points to lead Hays, Chason VanDerWege had 21 points, 11 rebounds.

Kapaun 70, Manhattan 52 — William Thengvall helped Kapaun take a 16-point halftime lead, scoring a game-high 20 points. Will Anciaux and Max Keller each scored 14.

Maize South 72, North Kansas City 67 — Maize South had four in double figures — Isaiah Atwater 16, Jaylen Maize 14 and Tory Homan and Michael Kates with 13 apiece.

Washburn Rural 39, Wichita Heights 38 — TJ Williams scored 18 to lead Heights. Washburn Rural was led by JC Heim’s 11 points.

Wichita North 62, Liberal 58

Wichita Northwest 55, Junction City 53 — Tasean Williams scored 12, while Eli Benning and Javonne Glover each had 10 in Northwest’s win. Larkin Turner scored 15 for Junction City.

Wichita Southeast 68, Dodge City 41

Wichita West 83, Valley Center 72 — Gavyn Phillips scored 32 points and had 12 rebounds against Valley Center.

Girls

Bishop Carroll 52, Life Prep 41 — Landon Forbes scored a game-high 24 points for Carroll and Leah Henke had 14. Life Prep’s Angela Vergara had 17 for a team-high.

Kapaun 50, Manhattan 43 OT — Sophia Gimino scored 18 of her game-high 22 points in the second half and OT. Lizzie Romer made four three-pointers, finishing with 12 points, and McCoy Phister scored four of her eight points in the overtime.

McPherson 69, St. James 61 — Jordan Sears scored 36 points — third-best in Bullpups history — and Karter Alvord had 18.

Washburn Rural 49, Wichita Heights 34

Wichita East, Garden City 44

Wichita Northwest 68, Junction City 52 — Northwest outscored Junction City 20-10 in the fourth quarter. Kamyra Barber led Northwest with 20 points, N’ascent Robinson 16, Aaliyah Richard 11 in the Grizzlies’ victory.

Wichita South 44, Hays 38 — Mahogany Butler scored 14 points, Zion Butler 13 and RaMya Kennedy 12 in the win over Hays.

Wichita Southeast 51, Dodge City 39
