Tonight’s high school basketball scores, recaps (Jan. 28)

It’s been a tough day for those of us fortunate enough to know Andale girls coach Ted Anderson. What a wonderful man.

The thoughts and prayers of so many are with the Anderson family and the Andale family. To the Andale girls who decided to play tonight in the Haven semifinals, good luck. You got this.

Boys

Abilene 47, Thomas More Prep 43

Augusta 52, El Dorado 47 — Josh Burton scored 15 points, all in the second half, for Augusta, which was tied at 19-all with El Dorado at the half.  LJ Berkstresser scored 23 and Kemboi had 11 for El Dorado.

BV-Randolph 55, Doniphan West 34

Collegiate 68, Circle 65 — Wesley Fair scored 26 and Jack Duarte had 24 to lead Collegiate in the win. Circle’s Trevor Cowman had 22 points, Conner Chadwell 17 and Luke McGinnis 15.

Derby 57, Maize 52 — Derby scored seven of the final eight points, including 4 of 4 free throws from Kaeson Fisher-Brown and DeShawne Titus. Amari Thomas was the catalyst for Derby. After falling behind Maize 16-7 in the first quarter, Thomas scored 13 of the Panthers’ 17 second-quarter points, hitting 3 of 4 threes. Derby took the lead for good on Jameer Clemons’ steal and layup with 35 seconds to go. Clemons and Trent Parke each scored 10 points — Clemons scored his in the second half, Parke hit three three-pointers. Thomas scored a game-high 21 points. Jaden Gustafson led Maize with 16 points, Mason Belcher had 11 and Kyle Grill 10.

Hays 58, Salina Central 32

Hesston 45, Buhler 40

Hutchinson 74, Eisenhower 54

Lakin 61, Goodland 49 — Gonzalez scored 28 to lead Lakin and Martinez had 12. Hardy scored 13 to lead Goodland.

Moundridge 54, Goessel 38 — Moundridge’s Churchhill scored a game-high 22 points. S. Wuest scored 13 to lead Goessel.

Rose Hill 69, Arkansas City 57

SE-Saline 63, Ellsworth 39

West Elk 41, South Haven 28

Girls

Andale 46, Garden Plain 36 — One day after Andale coach Ted Anderson died unexpectedly of a heart attack, the Indians got the win over Garden Plain. They advance to the finals of Haven’s championship on Saturday. MacKenzie Fairchild scored 11 points and had three steals for Andale, and Winter had eight rebounds. Celia Puetz and Brooke Hammond each had six rebounds for Garden Plain.

Bluestem 40, Cherryvale 37

Burlingame 50, Madison 32 — Grace Simmons scored 16 points, Kaylin Noonan 15 and Kenna Master 10.

Cheney 53, Nickerson 35 — Brynn McCormick led Cheney with 18 points and Brooklyn Wewe had 12. Nickerson’s Ava Jones scored 12.

Circle 39, Augusta 36

Clearwater 45, Northwest 22 — Elizabeth Tjaden had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the Clearwater win, and Carli Carlson had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Camryn Clevenger added six rebounds.

Dodge City 51, Bishop Carroll 39

Doniphan West 55, BV-Randolph 24 — Weathersbee scored 18 for Doniphan West.

Eisenhower 53, Wichita South 37

Ellinwood 66, Lyons 47

Goddard 47, Maize South 25

Heights 50, Topeka Seaman 28 — Zyanna Walker scored a game-high 22 points to lead Heights in the win.

Hesston 60, Buhler 23

Hugoton 66, Ulysses 20 — Ten of Hugoton’s players scored with Gianna Vos leading the way with 25.

Inman 51, Belle Plaine 46 — Inman’s Martisko had 14 points.

Kapaun 51, El Dorado 21

Maize 40, BV Southwest 33 — Maize’s Brekkyn Pierce scored a game-high 16 points.

Manhattan 52, Marysville 44 — Manhattan’s Avery Larson and Grace Dixon scored 18 and 17 points to lead their team to the win. Larson also had six assists and Dixon seven rebounds. Marysville’s Madison Ronnebaum had 18 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals.

SM Northwest 41, McPherson 37 — Tamar Harris-Webster had 15 points and Ericka Ojeda scored 11 for SM Northwest. McPherson’s Peyton Howard had eight rebounds.

Mill Valley 44, Gardner-Edgerton 34

Moundridge 32, Chaparral 26 — K. Eichelberger led Moundridge with 18 points.

Olathe South 36, SM South 35 — Ella Anderson scored 16 points and had six rebounds in Olathe South’s win. Raegan Halliday had nine rebounds, Elizabeth Webb five assists. SM South’s Camryn Smith scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds,, and teammate Ashley VanElders scored 11.

Salina Central 68, Hays 43 — Aubrie Kierscht scored 34 points and Landry Stewart had 11 in the win. Mckayla Cunningham added nine rebounds.

Salina Sacred Heart 43, Hutch Trinity 13 — Katie Weiss scored 14 points to lead Sacred Heart.

Sedan 50, Argonia 25 — Madison Holt scored 14 and Jacie Cummings had 13 in Sedan’s win.

South Haven 44, West Elk 33

SE-Saline 60, Ellsworth 34

Sunrise Christian 57, Sedgwick 30 — Alexa Scarlett led Sedgwick with 12.
