Behind a dominating defensive performance, the West All-Stars defeated the East All-Stars 14-9 in the 47th Annual Shrine Bowl Saturday night at Hummer Park in Topeka.
The West allowed just one rushing yard in the victory, which is their 29th all-time.
Dalton Miller from Great Bend, who was named the West MVP, had the most significant play from scrimmage, when he scored on a 44-yard run in the third quarter.
The other touchdown from the West came off a Kade Melvin 1-yard dive in the second quarter.
The West finished with 228 yards of offense and had two of the most impressive drives of the night: an eight-play, 80-yard drive that was capped off by Miller’s score and then a 14-play, 83-yard drive that ended with Melvin’s score.
On defense, Clearwater’s Nolan Streit led the West with eight tackles; 3.5 of which were tackles for a loss.
