Olathe South High School’s Eve Long Named VYPE Kansas Girls Basketball Player of the Year – Sponsored by Shelter Insurance and Shelter Agent Ryan Aylward

Congratulations to Eve Long of Olathe South for being named the Shelter Insurance – VYPE Media Kansas Girls Basketball Player of the Year!

Eve was selected by VYPE editors with input from VYPE content developers and coaches.

Long helped lead Olathe South to a 20-6 record while posting outstanding individual numbers: 32.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.4 blocks and 1.0 assists per game. In a January win over Olathe North, she scored 37 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Olathe South battled injuries throughout the season, but the team still qualified for the Class 6A state tournament.

Long credits the team’s selflessness, hard work and willingness to play together for its success.

Her skills also continued to progress throughout her high school career.

“Definitely just growing my game and versatility from an offensive and defensive standpoint. Of course my points per game and efficiency have improved, but also my confidence,” she said.

During the offseason, she focused on continuing to improve.

“Perimeter work, being able to handle the ball against pressure and becoming a three-level scorer” were all critical areas Long spent time developing.
