Blue Valley Southwest’s Kylie Workizer – Kansas City Area Fan’s Choice Miss Basketball – Presented by Shelter Insurance

Kylie Workizer is just getting started, but her mindset already sets her apart. The Blue Valley Southwest freshman balances basketball and volleyball with a focus that goes beyond her years, driven by a simple goal: constant improvement.

“I’m trying to be the best I can be.”

That mindset showed itself in key moments this past season. One of the most memorable came in a high-intensity matchup that tested both skill and composure.

“One of the best highlights from this past season was beating Bishop Miege in overtime.”

For Workizer, competition is about more than personal performance. Every time she steps onto the court, she carries something bigger with her.

“It means a lot to me because when I put on my school jersey, I’m not just playing for myself, I’m playing for my teammates, my coaches, my family, and everyone who supports our school.”

That sense of responsibility fuels her when games get difficult, and pressure builds. Instead of backing down, she leans into those moments.

“Knowing that when things get tough, that’s when you are getting better.”

Workizer also takes a unique approach to improving her game. Rather than modeling herself after one specific athlete, she learns from anyone who stands out.

“I model my game after people I see doing something different or better than me and try to do it too.”

Her development hasn’t happened alone. Coaches have played a key role in shaping her growth, both technically and mentally.

“Each coach that I’ve had has helped develop my skills, but what’s most important is having a coach who believes in you.”

Off the court, her support system continues to push her forward. From practices to games, her family has been a constant presence.

“My family has supported me all my life by driving me from practices to games and being my biggest cheerleader in the stands.”

As just a ninth grader, Workizer is already building a foundation rooted in effort, resilience, and perspective. With her mindset and support system, she’s not just competing, she’s developing into the kind of athlete who raises the standard for those around her.
