As Wichita Trinity prepares for the upcoming football season, Bryton Baty is ready to take on a larger role both on and off the field.
The upperclassman said stepping into a leadership position is one of the things he is looking forward to most as the Knights build on the progress they made a season ago.
“I am excited to go into this season as a leader, being an upperclassman,” Baty said. “I am also excited about the new coaches we have. The team is excited to build on the momentum that we gained last season.”
Baty has spent the offseason preparing for the increased expectations through a disciplined training routine designed to improve every aspect of his game.
His mornings have been filled with weightlifting sessions, while afternoons have included position-specific workouts. He has also focused on nutrition and gained additional experience by attending college camps and combines.
“To prepare for this season, I have been doing weights every morning, position-specific workouts, focusing on my nutrition and attending college camps and combines,” Baty said.
His biggest offseason priority was improving his athleticism, particularly his speed and strength.
“This year my goal was to get faster and stronger,” Baty said. “I have worked on that by doing speed and agility workouts, as well as lifting.”
Those improvements are all part of Baty’s plan to make a bigger impact this fall. Individually, he has set an ambitious milestone of reaching 1,000 rushing yards, but his personal goals take a back seat to what the Knights hope to accomplish as a team.
“Individually, I would like to have a 1,000-yard season,” Baty said. “Our goal as a team is to win a state title.”
