For Rose Hill’s Remington Merlau, the upcoming season has a simple meaning.
The upcoming football is about sharing the field with his teammates, continuing to grow as a player and helping establish a culture that can define the program moving forward.
“I am most excited about getting to play with my buddies,” Merlau said. “And getting the opportunity to improve my athletic performance.”
Merlau has spent the offseason focused on improving his skills and preparing himself for the challenges ahead. He has worked with coach Daniels while dedicating countless hours to refining his game on the field.
“I have been training with coach Daniels, and have spent countless hours on the field working on my craft,” Merlau said.
Last season, Merlau made an impact on the defensive side of the ball, finishing with 36.5 total tackles, 29 quarterback pressures, three forced fumbles and 4.5 sacks. As he enters the new season, he is looking to build on that production while continuing to become a more complete player.
One of Merlau’s biggest areas of focus is not just improving physically, but also making a greater impact as a teammate and leader.
“One area I want to improve on is being a better teammate and uplifting my teammates,” Merlau said. “We have spent a lot of time together and creating a better bond.”
Merlau believes the relationships built within the team will play a major role in Rose Hill’s success. While personal improvement remains a goal, he knows the team’s growth will be measured by the culture it creates.
“Individually, I want to improve and show my growth from last year to now,” Merlau said. “As a team, I want to create a culture and set that as the standard for Rose Hill football.”
