Goddard’s Erik Olivas – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Davis Moore Chevrolet

Erik Olivas has one final opportunity to leave his mark at Goddard High School, and the senior is determined to make the most of it.

After piling up 2,269 all-purpose yards during an outstanding junior season, Olivas enters the fall with lofty expectations for himself and the Lions. More importantly, he is eager to spend one more season competing alongside the teammates who have been with him throughout his high school career.

“I’m excited about getting one last football season with my guys this fall and being able to show my talents to coaches and fans this season,” Olivas said.

Olivas emerged as one of Kansas’ top offensive playmakers last season, rushing for 1,600 yards while adding 446 receiving yards. His ability to impact games in multiple ways made him a focal point of the Lions’ offense and set the stage for an even bigger senior campaign.

Rather than resting on last year’s success, Olivas spent the offseason focusing on the details that could elevate his game.

He dedicated time to adding size in the weight room while also improving the fundamentals that make him an effective running back.

“Offseason I’ve been focused on gaining weight and getting in the weight room and focusing on footwork,” Olivas said.

One area that received special attention was his blocking technique, something he believes will make him a more complete player.

“I needed to improve my blocking footwork,” Olivas said. “I’ve worked on that by doing bag work and getting extra work with my coaches.”

Those offseason efforts are fueling ambitious goals for his final high school season. Individually, Olivas has his sights set on another milestone season, while his team aspirations remain the top priority.

“My goal is to get 2,000 rushing yards this season,” Olivas said. “As a team, we want to make a run in the playoffs.”
