The 2024 team defeated the third, second and first-seeded teams with those teams having a combined record of 67-2 before the state tournament started. The championship game was against the undefeated Little River, who was 24-0. Breleigh made a crucial three-point shot with 1:40 left in the game when we were only ahead 41-37. Layla had to face a box and 1s and face guards all season. Despite that, she had a game high of 29 pts against Stanton County. She also made six threes in one game against Syracuse. She was voted first team in the High Plains League. She was also all-state 3A honorable mention. “A good chance to finish with 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. Could finish as Victoria’s all-time leading rebounder. Two-time all-league recognition in some form. Victoria is in Class 1A, Division II. We return 72 percent of our points and 65 percent of our rebounds from last year. Senior post Averi Windholz has a strong chance at 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. She enters this year with 542 points and 367 rebounds. Averi had an excellent summer, including big games against bigger schools and competition. We anticipate Averi to be one of the top players in Class 1A. Averi led Victoria in scoring each of the last two years. We expect Averi to lead our team, particularly in scoring, rebounding and blocks. Averi is a great senior leader and loves basketball. When there are issues that need to be addressed Brynlyn is able to speak to the team and coaching staff. She offers a big heart, wonderful sportsmanship, embodies integrity, and is one of the hardest workers on and off the court. She gets better every practice, and pushes her team and coaches to be better as well! As a small school in Kansas, Blue Valley is often overlooked. The Class 6A state games truly showcased her talent and put her on the map. Senior. Matt Tinsley: “Anna Becker is an instinctive basketball player who can impact a game on both ends of the floor. She has a motor that doesn’t stop, and can score at all three levels, especially when she gets in the paint and can rise up in the lane. The best part of her game is getting out in transition where she can create for herself and her teammates. On the defensive end she is extremely active and she can guard 1 through 5. Anna loves basketball and as a leader on our team, she is a great teammate and has set many individual records at our school. Drake is signing an exceptional player, but an even better person.
“Since Anna started coming to my summer basketball camp, I knew she would be special. She loves basketball and is her happiest when she’s out on the court. A 4.0 student as well, a true definition of student-athlete. I’ve attached her career stats. She is currently eighth all-time in school history in points scored and second in assists and steals. The trajectory of our program has benefited from Anna being a part of it. She’s been a three-year all-league player, two-time league player of the year. League newcomer of the year and an all-state basketball player and state champion. (Last year we won 5A state). “Helms is a 5-6 combo guard. Helm started her high school career at Columbus before moving to Riverton at the end of her sophomore season. Before moving to Riverton, Helms was an all CNC honorable mention league player for the Titans. Helms was also a track and field state qualifier in the 4×400 relay. Helms is a leader on the floor and plays with a very aggressive style of basketball both on offense and defense. She can get to the basket off the dribble as well as hurt you with her perimeter shooting. She does a great job of seeing the floor and getting those around her involved. She plays above her age and a lot of players look to her for reassurance and confidence even when she was a freshman. She will see an increase of production this year as we graduated our senior Lizzie Romero, who led the team in points last season. McCoy can get to the rim at will and also hit the outside shot. She has a career scoring average of 8.4 and averages more rebounds at 8.7. Her best single season scoring average was 11.1 her junior year. She is capable of a double-double every time she laces them up. Olivia is a great leader as well as a great student. For this season, looking for her to continue her strong perimeter shooting and as she’s gotten stronger and more confident, she should be a threat to put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim. She handled the ball and ran our offense as the point guard, was first in assists per game and was second in scoring . During her freshman year during our state semifinal game against Pittsburg Colgan made four three-pointers to help our team achieve a 18-point comeback to win the game in overtime. Her sophomore year against Valley Heights she made six straight free throws with two minutes left to help us win that semifinal game last year. She had two other state players on the team the last two years in Taylor Weishaar and Halle Studer, so I’m looking forward to seeing what she will do this year with more responsibility to score and run the team from the point guard position. “Kyplee has been a four-year starter for the Lady Vikes basketball team. As a freshman she helped the team reach the 2A state tournament for the first time in over 40 years. Her sophomore year she was selected honorable mention for the Flint Hills League and again played an important role in the Lady Vikes winning both the league regular season and league tournament. Last year, she was the lone upperclassman, as she was the only junior and the team had no seniors. Due to injury, she missed the back half of the season. She was selected as second team all-league and honorable mention from KSHAA Covered and Sports in Kansas. Kyplee is one of those players who is extremely dedicated, works hard and always brings the energy to the gym. She is also a softball standout, helping the Lady Vikes to earn the 2A-1A state title in 2022. Kyplee has committed to play softball at Butler Community College next year.” – coach Mackenzie Tynon
