Hoping to lead her team to a winning record, senior power forward Aubrey Birney has put in work over the offseason to improve her scoring ability.
Birney, who averaged seven points per game last year along with four rebounds, worked on lots of shooting to widen her range and improve her shooting percentage to help her be ready for the season.
“Aubrey is a natural overall athlete, and one of the best to come through Russell HS. In the four years of coaching her, she has progressed immensely every season. Basketball just comes natural to her,” Head coach Tyson Revell said.
The last two seasons Birney and the Russell Broncos have ended the season with a losing record but Birney has hopes that the work her and her team put in this offseason on getting stronger and more aggressive can help change that.
“I am most excited to have one last opportunity to better our program,” Birney said. “We have a really strong senior group and I am excited to see what we can accomplish this season.”
Aside from being a talented basketball player, Birney is also a well-rounded student and multisport athlete playing volleyball and running track for the Broncos.
“As a person, she works hard for her community in many ways. She is involved in many school organizations, creates our social media/posters for games at RHS and volunteers when asked,” Birney said.
Despite her skill on the basketball court, Birney is committed to Fort Hays State University for Track and field so she is determined to make her final year playing basketball count.
“My motivation for this season is knowing that it is my last and it is up to my team and I to finish it off right,” Birney said.
