Garden City’s Kierrah Pinchon – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance – Rachel Janes

Being a leader is exactly what this young Garden City team needs, and junior Kierrah Pinchon is excited and prepared to step into that role.

Pinchon is a seasoned small forward who plays on the EYBL circuit and travels with CyFair Elite during the summer.

Over the offseason Pinchon has picked up three offers to play college basketball; Wichita State University, the University of Nebraska and Stephen F. Austin. Pinchon hopes to have another breakout season and pick up even more offers.

Pinchon’s main focus for this school season is to become more of a vocal leader for her team to rely on.

“I’ve always led with my actions, inspiring people on and off the court, and I know how much of an impact that makes. Using my voice could bring even more,” Pinchon said. “ I also got a job in the community to work on my confidence in speaking, translating that onto the court.”

After a 9-12 finish last season, Pinchon and the Lady Buffaloes are determined to push through adversity and place first in the WAC.

“This upcoming season, I’m most excited about seeing how far this year’s group of girls can go. We have talented and hard-working players, and I think we make a great team,” Pinchon said.

Another way Pinchon can help her team succeed this season is to help with the backcourt ball handling.

“One area I want to improve this year is my ball handling. It could always get better,” Pinchon said. “Almost every day during the off-season I was in the gym improving my handles and skills.”
