Brynlyn Paige Huguenin, a junior at Neodesha High School, is quickly establishing herself as a determined competitor in the 115-pound weight class. As part of a relatively new wrestling program, Huguenin takes pride not only in improving her own skills, but also in helping shape the identity of her team.
Huguenin’s dedication shows in her preparation. She commits to a structured weekly workout schedule, stays disciplined with her diet, focuses on maintaining peak conditioning, and regularly attends wrestling camps to sharpen her technique.
This season, her biggest personal focus has been improving her confidence and aggressiveness on the mat. She’s worked toward that by pushing herself out of her comfort zone, connecting with more people, attending camps, and staying mentally locked in on what truly matters during competition.
After falling just one match short of qualifying for the state tournament last season, Huguenin is determined to take that next step. She firmly believes that with focus and belief in herself, she can reach state this year. Just as important, she wants Neodesha’s team to shed the label of a “new wrestling club” and instead be recognized as a legitimate competitor rather than an easy win.
Last season marked a turning point in her development. After early struggles, she discovered the setups that best suited her style and gained confidence in her attacks. That growth led to impressive finishes, including second place at the Fredonia Invitational, first place at the Labette County Classic, and second at the Chanute Girls Mixer.
Outside of wrestling, Huguenin is a multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball and track. Wrestling opened a new door for Huguenin, and she fell in love with the sport instantly. Looking ahead, she hopes to earn a sports scholarship while also exploring a future in cosmetology.
