Columbus’ Jayden Rodriguez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Uplink

By Angela Brunk

Jayden Rodriguez, a senior at Columbus High School, is entering his final wrestling season with purpose, maturity, and a team-first mindset. Competing in the 157-pound weight class, Rodriguez is focused on continued growth as both an athlete and a leader, while helping Columbus compete with some of the top wrestling programs across the state.

Rodriguez’s goal isn’t centered solely on medals or podium finishes, but on knowing he gave everything he had every time he stepped on the mat. With that mindset, he trusts that results will fall into place as God planned. As a team, he hopes Columbus can finish in the top two at regionals and secure a top-five team finish at the state tournament.

Preparation has been a major priority during the offseason. Rodriguez spent countless hours in the gym building strength and improving his physicality. Along with that, the Columbus wrestling program traveled to clinics and tournaments, giving him the opportunity to sharpen his technique against high-level competition. This year, he has made it a point to expand his arsenal by refining the technical details that can change the outcome of a match.

Rodriguez is coming off a strong junior season, finishing with a 32–9 record and narrowly missing a state medal after falling one match short of placing. That experience has fueled his motivation and sharpened his focus heading into his senior year.

Beyond wrestling, Rodriguez is a standout multi-sport athlete. He also competes in football and baseball, earning all-state honors in both sports, a testament to his athleticism and work ethic. After graduation, he plans to attend Pittsburg State University, where he will major in construction management. With his dedication, humility, and competitive drive, Rodriguez is determined to leave his mark on Columbus High School athletics in his final season.
