Harlee Blackwell is a senior Forward for the Fredonia High School Yellowjackets. The senior is averaging 10 points a game with three rebounds, four deflections, and two steals.
Blackwell has always been a super hard worker, and now as a senior, she has made it her goal to show the next generation of Yellowjackets exactly how it’s done.
“Work ethic is something that I take very seriously,” Blackwell said. “This is because, in my early high school days, I allowed myself to coast through the seasons. As a freshman and sophomore in high school, I felt like I didn’t have to try because I had the upperclassman to lean on. Now, I reflect on mysel,f and I realize that I could’ve been so much more than I am today. Today, I lead by example, give ALL of my efforts, and encourage those around me to be their very best because every season in life will come to an end.”
The Yellowjackets have struggled but leaned on the senior leadership of Blackwell.
“This year, we have an extremely small and young team, but I could never ask for a different group of girls,” Blackwell said. “Something that I really love about this group of girls is that no matter the score on the board, effort is not something that we lack. Keeping it positive on the floor is one of the biggest things for our team this year and I think we have done a spectacular job at it.”
The senior made it her biggest goal this year to continue to uplift the culture of the Yellowjackets basketball team no matter what happens on the court.
“My personal goals are continuing to be a leader and someone the team can look up to, grow as a player, and make the most of my last basketball season with my best friends,” Blackwell said. “All the goals that we hold as a team relate back to our theme this year: Progress over Perfection. So our goals are about improvement and growth as well as building the program back.”
