Hesston coach Tyson Bauerle does not define his team’s success based on wins and losses or how far they advance in the playoffs.
It’s all about potential.
“A successful season would mean the team reached as close to our overall potential as possible,” Bauerle said. “We have a daily set of championship habits we strive for and that we have control over. We’ve had a great summer putting those into action. Now it’s a matter of straining for those championship habits each day on the practice field and taking care of business on Friday nights.”
The Swathers return a veteran team that has plenty of experience. The strength to the team will be up front where two-way all-league players Ethan Coutre and Gunner Goalden are back.
Add in quarterback Jerick Humphreys and wide receiver Daxon Deering and Hesston has the talent to be a state contender.
“We return seven starters on offense, six starters on defense, and 23 total guys that lettered last season,” Bauerle said. The experience on Friday nights, as well as the leadership off the field, will be invaluable as we begin this season.”
While success can be interpreted in different ways, there are ultimate goals Bauerle and the Swathers want to accomplish.
“We have large goals this season,” Bauerle said. “We’ve reached the regional championship game three seasons in a row. We are doing everything we can to make it deep into November football.”
