As a senior at Maize High School, Landon Johnson is stepping onto the soccer field with high hopes for both personal growth and team success. A two-year captain and former center back, Johnson is now playing center midfielder and embracing the opportunity to contribute more on the offensive side of the ball.

“An individual goal for myself is to have at least 10 assists this year,” Johnson shared with Vype Magazine. While Johnson has his own personal milestones he is working towards, he also has a clear team goal. Johnson and the team want to make a deep run in the postseason.

One game that stands out this season for Johnson is the matchup against rival Maize South High School. “We haven’t beat them in three years. It’d be nice to get the win this year. This will be a big challenge, but we are up for it,” Johnson added.

After anchoring the defense last season, Johnson is looking forward to showing his versatility as center midfielder. His leadership on and off the field has already earned him respect among teammates and coaches alike.

Outside of high school soccer, Johnson plays for the Wichita Sporting MLS Next 2 team, gaining valuable experience at a high level. While Johnson remains undecided about his future plans, he hopes to continue playing soccer at the collegiate level.

With his mix of leadership, experience, and determination, Landon Johnson is set to make his final season at Maize High a memorable one.
