Entering his senior year at Parsons High School, Chandler Hentzen is more motivated than ever to leave everything on the field. As a dynamic two-way player at running back and strong safety, Hentzen’s personal goal is simple. To give the team 110% every play, no matter the situation.
This year, the Vikings are aiming high with their goals. “Our goal is to win our division and make it to the state championship,” Hentzen says.
Hentzen is especially excited about the upcoming matchup against Frontenac. Always a tough opponent, he believes Parsons has the best chance to win this year. “I believe we have more of a shot than ever to win it,” he said.
Hard work was put in during the offseason by Hentzen to be a more versatile player on defense. That work has included a position shift for Hentzen, moving from linebacker to strong safety. This transition he’s embraced with the help of Coach Raheem Dumas. Off the field, Hentzen and his teammates have been grinding in the weight room, focusing on getting stronger and faster across the board.
Despite dealing with a tough injury early in his junior season, Hentzen powered through and still earned all-state recognition. “To get that mention really just opened my eyes to see that although there are roadblocks, if you put your mind to it, you can get those goals accomplished,” Hentzen shared.
After high school, Hentzen hopes to continue his football career at the collegiate level if the fit is right. If not, he plans to serve in the Army, aiming to join their special forces. Outside of football, he stays busy with work, training, film study, and participating in clubs like Math Club, FCA, and Spirit Club.
