After placing third at state for the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, Wichita East’s Jordan Kleeman is excited for her final year of swim.
“With it being my senior year I wanted to have fun and be more involved in school activities and with my friends. But now that high school practice has started again I’m falling in love with the sport all over again. It’s great to be back at it,” Kleeman said.
One thing in specific she is excited for this year is relays at Olathe East.
“I love getting to travel with my teammates. The relay meet is also unique because it offers a really fun event called the plunge. It’s where you go off the block and when you hit the water you can’t move or breathe. You win by making it the farthest without doing the following. I also enjoy the random relays that don’t count like the 300 yard butterfly relay is always really fun and it’s great to do something different,” Kleeman said.
One thing different Kleeman did this year was not do club swimming, she feels like it will better her mentality this season.
“I want to enjoy the sport and try not to be as stressed out about my results, while still being competitive and working to be a better overall well rounded swimmer.
During the offseason to help my mentality I went to basketball games and football games with all my friends. While also still staying active with things I enjoy like pickle ball,” Kleeman said.
