Dexter’s Arik Artherton – Cabela’s “Call of the Wild” Wichita Area Outdoors Spotlight

Dexter High School senior Arik Artherton definitely stays busy. Between schoolwork, athletics, extracurricular activities, and hobbies, he finds a way to balance it all. Artherton plays football, basketball, and baseball for the Dreadnaughts. He also devotes his time to National Honor Society, Circle of Friends, math team, trap shooting, student council, and is a volunteer firefighter.

Artherton appreciates the opportunities he has to branch out into many areas of the community. He sums it up best by saying, “What I enjoy most about what I do is being involved in almost everything in my small town.”

In addition to everything else, when Artherton gets a chance to spend time outdoors, he takes it.  “I love the outdoors and my favorite thing to do in the outdoors is to go pond jumping with my friends,” he said.

When it comes to sports, this multi-sport athlete pushes himself to be his best on the court, field, and in the classroom – with a little extra motivation from mom, of course. “What motivates me is that I am very competitive and also my mom pushes me to have good grades,” he said. Another family member who has been a positive influence on Artherton is his grandfather. “He has a positive attitude towards everything he does,” said Artherton.

After high school, Artherton’s plans are to attend Hutchinson Community College and major in Fire Science.
