Northwest football dominates Heights behind four first-quarter touchdowns by Reagan Jones

By Blake Chadwick

Northwest and Heights both entered Friday’s game on hot streaks. While Northwest was unbeaten, Heights had improved to 3-3 after winning three straight thanks to junior running back Josh Sanders’ 754 rushing yards in that span.

But it was all Grizzlies in the 79-0 victory. Northwest improved to 7-0 as senior quarterback Reagan Jones led Northwest with four first-quarter touchdowns..

The Falcons lost Sanders due to injury early in åçthe game, and there wasn’t much that went right for them.

The Grizzlies scored on the first play from scrimmage, then forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff.

Kickoffs were when the Grizzlies were most dangerous. A looping ball from kicker Carson Arndt to a sideline would leave the Falcons helpless as the Grizzlies forced two straight fumbles which were capitalized on the other end by Reagan Jones.

“All gas no brakes” was the motto for the Grizzlies as they went up 41-0 in the first quarter.

“We executed everything to perfection,” said senior wide receiver Zion Jones as the team clinched the City League title again.

Northwest has outscored opponents 366-41.

The Grizzlies’ defense is playing lights out, a complete 180 from 2018’s defensive struggles.
