Concordia’s Joey Henderson – Poll Winner Presented By WSU Tech

By Hayden Swope

Joey Henderson of Concordia was a first team all-league and all-state honorable mention basketball player last season. Henderson has stayed competitive throughout the offseason, and is ready for the 2024 basketball season.

“I spent countless hours in the gym doing skill workouts, running, and getting up shots on the gun,” Henderson said. “As a team we played competitive pickup games two or three times a week. A weakness I improved over the off season was shooting the ball more consistently from three.”

After Concordia’s 10-11 record last season, Henderson has confidence that his team can make substantial strides this year..

“As a team my goal is to win the North Central Kansas League and make it to state,” Henderson said. “A personal goal is to earn all-league and all-state first team.”

Henderson’s favorite basketball memory consists of a rival game against Abilene last year that changed school history.

“My favorite memory of high school basketball so far is when we beat Abilene at Abilene’s house last year,” Henderson said. “It was the first time Concordia has beat Abilene at Abilene since 2014.”

After high school, Henderson plans to continue playing basketball while also preparing for his future career.

“I’m hoping to continue my basketball career at the next level and become an auto-body and collision repair technician,” Henderson said.
