Andale’s Marlo Sullivan – Poll Winner Presented By Visit Wichita

By Hayden Swope

Andale’s Marlo Sullivan has proved not only to her coaches and teammates, but herself that she is a force to be reckoned with.

“I never thought I’d be saying I played football for four years, let alone for a team with the winning traditions that Andale has,” Sullivan said. “I am most excited about finishing my career with the guys that encouraged me to start kicking in the first place.”

While Sullivan gets to play her final year with her friends, a big piece of the puzzle is missing this season, and it is one that hit the town of Andale hard.

“The picture included is of me and my best friend, Wyatt Sobba,” Sullivan said. “Wyatt supported me, was there to celebrate with me after games, and honestly kept me playing. Wyatt would have been a senior this year at Andale had he not tragically lost his life this February. Wyatt was not much of a football fan, but he was a great fan to me and the boys I play with. The decision to go out for football this year without him in the stands supporting me was very tough, but now what I am most excited about is to be able to dedicate every kick, win, and moment this season to him.”

Many football fans don’t think much about females playing the sport, but with Sullivan’s accolades, she is making herself known. This is something Sullivan hopes to make more common over the next year.

“As I’m approaching my final year of playing Andale football, a personal goal of mine that I have always hoped to reach is for my experience to open doors and encourage other girls to do things that are unusual or uncommon if that is what they are passionate about,” Sullivan said.
