It was just a normal volleyball practice for Bishop Carroll’s Kinley Doonan.
But then as she was coming down from a block, she landed on a teammate’s first, which resulted in a severe ankle sprain.
That led Doonan to using Advanced Physical Therapy to rehabilitate her ankle and APT utilized several exercises that led to her getting back onto the court.
“My favorite exercises were running on the zero gravity treadmill and dry needling,” Doonan said. “I liked the zero gravity treadmill because it allowed me to run without feeling the pain and allowed me to stay in decent shape while unable to work out. I liked the dry needling because although it was a painful process to go through I felt immediate relief from the tightness in my calf.”
APT told Doonan they wanted to move her along in a pace that was comfortable for her. The main objective was to get back on to the volleyball court pain-free.
“We focused on doing practical exercises that helped me to stabilize my ankle while strengthening other parts of my body that were weak, like my core and hamstrings,” Doonan said. “These practical exercises were motions that I would do on a daily basis and during athletic activities.”
