Laynee Roberts of Douglass High School was forced to see Advanced Physical Therapy after she dislocated her knee cap.
Roberts is heavily involved in the rodeo competition, so she needed to find a quick way to get back on the horse. She also plays volleyball and basketball, so being injured was a significant interruption to her life. But APT quickly assessed her injury and created the best avenue for Roberts to regain strength in her knee.
“I had a six month treatment plan,” Roberts said. “The plan was to strengthen (my knee) and make it more stable.”
Advanced Physical Therapy presented several exercises and treatments that Roberts said helped her knee significantly. All of those exercises were implemented so Roberts’ knee cap could be held in by the surrounding muscles.
“First were quad sets, which is when you sit down with your leg straightened and you tighten the top of your thigh muscle to press the back of your knee,” Roberts said. “Then there were straight leg raises, where you lay on your back and you raise your leg straight up. Finally there was the hip abduction, where you lay on your side and raise your leg up while it is straight.”
