Maize Cheerleading – Cheer Spotlight Presented By WSU Tech

By Matt Browning

In 2016, the Maize High School cheerleading team was invited to attended the Kansas Honor Flight Program. Members of that team saw how special the event was and now each team attends it every year.

“We were presented an official certificate, a flag flown over Fort McHenry and a tub of snacks to celebrate with,” said Jennifer White, Maize assistant cheer coach. “We were humbled to receive this recognition and honored to continue to have the opportunity to celebrate our beloved Kansas Veterans.”

Being able to thank those who have served our country was the most impactful aspect of the Honor Flight Program.

“Our athletes take the opportunity to honor these veterans by giving them a warm and proper welcome home very seriously and count it a privilege and an honor to do so,” White said.

This particular group of Maize cheerleaders will be remembered for how much they put into the cheer program.

“Positive energy, consistency and dedication will be what our team will be remembered for,” White said. “As ‘the face of the school’ cheerleaders as a rule are looked up to by younger students. This team will be remembered as leaders who are coachable and committed to supporting the community of Maize High School. Our team is dedicated to supporting the community of MHS and spends many hours cheering for, recognizing, creating spirit gifts for and designing posters to support teams and clubs within the school.”
