Last season as sophomore, Salina South’s Madison Durr finished in a tie for 18th place at the 5A Tournament, which was a step in the right direction after her freshman year.

Durr is anticipating even more growth in her game this year.

“I am most excited about fixing and perfecting my swing this season,” Durr said. “I’m really excited to see the improvement and to start placing higher in more tournaments and getting better.”

A simple scoring goal would go a long way in Durr improving her placements in tournaments.

“My goal for this season is to break 80,” Durr said. “I was in the high 80’s last year and I think to break 80 is a very achievable goal.”

Durr worked on her swing in the offseason, but she understands the place where she can improve the most, the one area that will help her scoring, is her short game.

“I would like to better my chipping and work on my shorter putts,” Durr said. “Putting and chipping are the killers of the game and can always be improved someway and my goal is to get really good at them by the end of season.”

After having knee surgery last year, Durr not only worked on the mechanics of her golf swing, but also tried to increase her strength.

“I also worked on building up my quad muscle in the off season after the knee surgery last year because it was weak, and it has helped my swing progress,” Durr said.
