State Golf Wrap-Up

Class 6A

Maize junior Kinslea Jones continues her dominance as she wins her third state championship.

“Kinslea is an amazing competitor and works tremendously hard at her craft,” head coach Ben Harlow said. “There are high expectations for her in each and every tournament. To watch her go out and overcome a 1 shot deficit to have the day she had was amazing.

She never seems to back down to any situation.”

Class 5A Finishers

Kapaun freshman Ximena Sarinana edged out Andover’s Regan Dusenberry on the third playoff hole to win her first state championship.

“We are so happy for Ximena, she works so hard on her golf game and has a strong, mental toughness that gives her such a competitive advantage on the golf course,” head coach Marie Thomas said. “And for her to accomplish it in her freshman year makes it that much sweeter.”

Andover’s sophomore Regan Dusenberry finished her season as 5A runner-up.

Bishop Carroll’s senior Bella Jones finished third after shooting a 148.

Newton freshman Naomi Koontz finished fourth with a score of 155.

Kapaun sophomore Ava Truong finished seventh after shooting a 163.

Kapaun senior Tilly Jones finished 12th after shooting a 170.

Class 5A Team Scores

Kapaun completed the four-peat winning with a score of 649.

“It always feels great winning a state championship because of the time and effort put into accomplishing the goal,” Thomas said. “It does feel different with it being a four-peat because I don’t think a lot of people expected us to win a championship this year because of the loss of Meg Tilma. The girls worked hard to prove they could accomplish it.”

Bishop Carroll finished third place with a score of 700.

Class 4A

Pratt senior Avery Blasi finishes her career as a state runner-up with a score of 152.

Wellington sophomore Taryn Viramontes finished third with a score of 153.

Winfield sophomore Lilli Simpson finished seventh with a score of 159, one stroke behind the  fifth place finishers.

Winfield senior Carly Littell finished 12th place with a score 163.

Class 4A Team Scores

Wellington finished their season third place at State with a score of 705.

Winfield finished fourth with a score of 711.

Pratt finished fifth with a score of 726.

Class 3-1A

Collegiate junior Magaret Ulrich shot a 154 to win her third straight state championship.

“This one was a bit different because she couldn’t cruise to victory as easily as she has in the past,” head coach Hans Widener said. “She stumbled on a couple holes in the final round including taking an 8 on the 9th hole after a couple errant tee shots, which really cut into her lead. When many would have overly dwelt on their mistake and let it affect the following holes, she turned around and blistered a drive straight down the fairway on 10 and knocked her approach on the green. I was really proud of the way she handled herself and hung in there to win her third straight title.”
