After a 7-3 season, the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs feel the championship aspirations getting closer. Senior quarterback/safety Lane Homewood has his own plans to make sure the Mustangs get there. After a first-team All-League season on defense and an honorable mention All-League performance on offense, Homewood has no plans on being content with 2022’s accolades. The team summer workouts go from 6:30-7:45 a.m. three mornings during the week. For Homewood though, he makes sure to get some extra work in. 

“Summer workouts with the team before the season has always been a great way to get back into the groove of things,” Homewood said. “But extra time has been put in by me and a few of my buddies in the weight room and also on the field.”

The hype around Sylvan-Lucas is the simple fact of the Mustangs returning six of their eight starters from 2022. 

“This year I want to go all the way,” Homewood said. “We got a special group this year of hard workers and we won’t take a single moment for granted.”

The senior has an offer from Bethel College, but with plans to play at the next level, he knows he has to take it up a notch to get some more opportunities. 

“I have been trying to work on every aspect of my game as well as putting in work in the weight room,” Homewood said. “When senior season is over, I don’t want to look back and wish I could have done more to prepare myself for this season.”
