Valley Center’s Tanner Johnson – Driving Change Athlete Presented By KTA

By Matt Browning

Tanner Johnson, a track athlete at Valley Center, was not sure about his season when it started in March, but now that it has concluded, he could not be more pleased.

“I feel like my season has gone fantastic this year,” Johnson said. “It was challenging at the start, but I am thrilled with my results.”

Johnson, who is the June KTA Athlete of the Month, set personal records in all of the events he competed in.

“My PRs are: the 100 meter was 28.20 seconds, the 200 meter was 63.81 seconds, and the 400 meter was two minutes and three seconds,” Johnson said.

There were two key areas that Johnson improved that led to his personal record times.

“One area I have improved on is control and steering,” Johnson said. “What has helped was practicing every day with my high school team and on the weekends with my adaptive track team.”

At long last, Johnson received his custom racing chair, which was a hit among his teammates.

“All of my teammates were there cheering for me, it was a great moment for me,” Johnson said.

Next year, Johnson will be attending Wichita State and plans to major in music production.
