Another record-breaking week of football in Kansas as the Cheney Cardinals beat Andale 36-30 in overtime to end the nation’s longest winning streak of 57 games.
The Cardinals stormed back from down 22-0 to force overtime where they went on to win 36-30 after a Jackson Voth rushing touchdown.
Cheney had given up 21 points in the previous six games that included four shutouts. Andale had given up 27 points in the previous six games.
Derby won its sixth straight with a 35-27 win over Maize South.
The Panthers were led by quarterback Easton Splane, who started his third game – and also played in the secondary.
Derby took a 28-7 lead before Maize South came back, scoring the first 14 points of the second half to get within 28-20
Wichita Northwest continued its winning ways, this time on neutral territory with a dominant win 55-13 over Wichita West. The win gave coach Steve Martin his 100th win of his career.
Hutchinson took care of Maize with a 36-17 win and is 5-2.
Andover Central won the crosstown rivalry game, easily beating Andover 40-7.
Wichita East continues to dominate with a 78-0 win over Wichita North. East had a 72-0 lead at the half.
Kapaun followed its Week 6 win over Bishop Carroll with a 35-14 win over St. James to improve to 6-1.
Eisenhower is still undefeated after beating Salina South 56-7.
McPherson took care of business against Mulvane 28-10 to get back to winning.
Buhler moved to 6-1 after a 34-18 win over Rose Hill.
Garden Plain beat Douglass 48-7 to improve to 6-1.
Valley Center dominated in a 35-3 over Ark City.
Goddard improved to 5-2 and handed Salina Central its second loss in a 42-35 win.
Wellington beat Circle 31-22 and is 5-2.
Conway Springs won its fifth straight game to improve to 5-2 with its 35-8 win over Inman. Conway Springs’ Brayden Kunz had 247 rushing yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns, including two on runs of 48 and 90 yards. Teammate Isaac Winter had 105 rushing yards, including a 64-yard touchdown run.
