Eisenhower’s Jordan Vincent makes immediate impact

By Joanna Chadwick

Eisenhower guard Jordan Vincent committed to play basketball at Emporia State on Sept. 12.

A little more than two weeks later, Vincent played in his first football game since eighth grade.

He had 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in the 21-20 victory over Goddard.

“It was fun being back out there,” Vincent wrote in a text. “Didn’t really know what to expect since it’s been a while, but it obviously went pretty well.”

But football? His senior season?

“It was really most of the coaching staff and a few of the players, who had talked to me about playing ever since summer, and then especially at the beginning of the school year,” Vincent said. “Since I committed so early, I didn’t have to worry about the college stuff. I figured, why not play?”

He quit football in order to focus full time on basketball.

On Sept. 18, he had his 11th football practice, just enough to allow him to play his first game on Friday.

“It has been a lot of fun,” Vincent said on Sept. 18. “I’m excited for my first game. I didn’t really think I’d be playing another football game. It’s weird, but I’m excited.”
